ByK 540R Kids Road Bike Features
At ByK we know kids love to be like their heroes, on the 620R they can be ready to climb the highest mountain pass and ride to school the next day. Our unique design makes it possible to play around cyclocross style as well.
Our clever integrated child specific gear design combine with premium components for a lightweight, versatile and strong dream machine.
Like the entire ByK Range, this is not a scaled down adult bike. Every single component has been considered, tested, custom sized and tuned to suit our rider's profile. Our unique ergonomic riding position and geometry offer a range of riding positions and adjustability unexpected at this size.
Our newest bike is road inspired but what really shines about the E540R is that it handles the vast variety of real world riding challenges like no other.
From our lightweight ergonomic Alloy frame and CRM forks to the durable low profile race tyres with high puncture resistance and the custom sized handlebars and stem for the best possible control and comfort, every details has been considered.
Microshift's innovative gear/brake shifters are child specific, super easy to reach and use and we have combined them with our premium SRAM cassette, gear changing is taken to a new level for kids road bikes.
Safety is paramount for ByK and with the E540R ByK takes safety to a new level for a kids road bike. From our predictive handling and shock absorbing geometry to the coolest and great stopping power of our mini v-brake system. The innovative frame improves balance and control to help each rider operate at the safest level possible.
To make a children's bike safe, the rider needs to be able to brake efficiently and confidently. The custom-sized V-Brakes we have used are calibrated for age, ability and ergonomic fit. And they are made of non-flexing, strong and light alloy. Our light weight alloy rims ensure pedalling is easier. But more importantly alloy rims are a more efficient braking surface than cheaper, chrome-plated steel rims, and are therefore safer.

How to Choose the Right Size Kids Bike
When it comes to choosing the right size kids bike, our over-riding advice is 'smaller is better than bigger'. Children learn to ride with greater ease, have more control on the bike and have a lot more fun if they are the master of their domain.
Our overall advice on choosing the right size kids' bike is based not only on Age and Height, but Ability and Personal Confidence.
It is all too common to see parents using height as the only key measurement for a bike's correct size. Be careful: it can easily be misleading as an indicator. As most kids' balance develops at roughly the same speed, using age with ability is far more relevant. If you can add age, with height, and ability (ability is a hard one to measure but as a parent you must be honest and realistic) and confidence, than you have a really good indicator.
A bike is the right size when your child can:
- Sit on the saddle and rest the balls of both feet on the ground.
- Straddle the top bar with a comfortable clearance and with both feet flat on the ground.
- Reach the handlebars with a slight bend in the arms when sitting on the seat.
- If there are handbrakes, your child should be able to grasp them and apply enough pressure to stop the bike.
The most common reason kids have to move up a size on a normal bike is because of the lack of knee room between the seat and handlebars. This forces you to put up the seat and then your child loses interest or confidence in riding because the centre of gravity is really high and hence the bike becomes even more difficult to ride.
